YESVEMBER: Weeks 3 and 4

December is officially here and my first YESVEMBER challenge has concluded.  Here is a few things that I have said “yes” to in weeks 3 and 4 (besides carbs):

  • Namaste with me.  My relationship with yoga has been on-again/off-again for the past 14 years.  This month I am happy to announce that yoga and I are officially on-again and it is just as hot and steamy as I remember it.  Why is it that I keep coming back to yoga?  Yoga reminds me to breathe and just be in the moment.  Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to tone up and de-stress.
  • Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.  Before you judge me (and who wouldn’t) let me finish.  These two are obnoxious.  Kanye West compares himself to Jesus and Walt Disney but can’t sing or rap.  Kim Kardashian, though attractive, had a sex tape and a personality that is like champagne minus the bubbles or booze.  Why are these two famous?!  When Kanye released his new video “Bound 2” featuring Kim I admit that I was super judgmental and bitchy about it.  It should be mentioned that I had not seen “Bound 1” so maybe I was just lost.  Enter James Franco and Seth Rogen.  These guys turned this girl’s frown upside down.  For those of you living under a rock and haven’t checked out the Franco/Rogen parody of “Bound 2” here it is:
  • Asking for help.  It has always been very difficult for me to ask for help, but I think this is common for a lot of people.  Since this is YESVEMBER I decided to ask for help when P and I were invited to attend a gala (very formal and very fancy).  Since the most formal dress that I own is my wedding dress I had two options: a)  buy a pricey formal dress during the most expensive time of the year, or b) ask for help.  I went with option “b” and I ended up wearing a gorgeous gold and black dress that I borrowed from a co-worker.  The moral of the story:  No matter how big or small or “fancy” your dilemma:  Ask for help!

So what did I come away with in this inaugural YESVEMBER challenge?  I stayed more positive, stressed less, and was so busy searching for the positive in the little things that this was the first month in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time where stressing out about money wasn’t a constant.  So bring on December!

Thanks for reading!

YESVEMBER: Week 2

edeA few things that I have embraced and appreciated this week 2 of YESVEMBER:

  • Going to work early.  Heading to work earlier than most can be quite a challenge at times BUT this time of year you can see some pretty gorgeous early morning skies like this:

IMAG0277

  • Arch nemesis-less.  Even though I think it would be super heroesque to have an arch nemisis alas I have not a one.  Sure there are personality traits that I don’t particularly care for, but I can honestly say there is not one person on this earth that I wish would drop off the face of it.  That kind of drama can be saved for the comic books.
  • Common sense.  I am so in love with you if you are a holder of this dying art form. The other night (driving in the rain) visibility was at a low.  Walking towards me, I saw a pedestrian in a reflective vest  and thought to myself in quotation marks “Heck yes, this guy may not be smart enough to avoid walking in a rainstorm but at least he had the common sense to realize that visibility is crappy and he put on something that he can be seen in”.   Good story right?  Well turns out I nearly hit the guy that was to the right of the reflective vest wearing guy who happened to be dressed in all in black!!!  Wouldn’t it make more sense for the guy in the reflective vest to be closer to the road vs. an all in black “Johnny Cash” (or should I say Johnny Crash)?  I know this month is supposed to be about embracing the positive, but come on!  Anyway, since you are reading this blog I KNOW you have common sense so thank you for not going for a walk…in all black…in a rainstorm AND for visiting my blog!

YESVEMBER: Week 1

So the first week of my new 30 day challenge “YESVEMBER” has come to a close.  Here is a link to the post if you haven’t read it describing what YESVEMBER is all about:

https://frugoal.wordpress.com/2013/11/02/yesvember/

The first week proved to be challenging, but that is why it is called a challenge, right?  Now I could make this post about how amazing my family and friends are or how blessed I am to have a roof over my head, food in my belly (err…I mean totally toned abs), and clothes on my back, but that would be too easy.  I really want to make this month of “Yes” be more about finding blessings in the not so obvious places.  These are the things I am grateful for in week 1 of YESVEMBER:

  • Yellow lights.  Hello you glorious little beams of hope.  I normally don’t give a second thought to yellow lights while I am sailing through them.  Yellow lights rock.  I actually hit quite a few of them on a regular basis which I only noticed this week.  The green and red lights may get all the glory (we all played “Red Light/Green Light” as a kid), but yellow lights are really the unsung heroes of our daily commutes.
  • Some unexpected juju.  On Halloween we welcomed a newly adopted dog, Ju Ju, into the family.  He is around 6 or 7…or 8 (not really sure) and this will be his third and final home.  We don’t know a lot about his past but we heard that his first owner neglected him.  Regardless of his history, he is the sweetest dog just filled with so much love and he is a perfect addition to the family.
  • Exercising my right to vote.  On Tuesday night, after a long day at work, bank errands and grocery shopping I just wanted to get home, plop down on the couch and get my “Lost” on y’all (I am on season 5 now and it is getting sooooooooo good).  As soon as I got in the door P reminded me that we needed to head down to vote.  Uggggggh.  Getting back in the car was the last think I wanted to do.  However, since this is the month of “yes” I went.  In our town (although small) P and I were 2 out of 37 people that voted.  37!  It was sad that only 37 people voted but it did feel good to be 1 of those  37 votes that were counted.

Well week 1 is over and week 2 is here and I am ready for everything it throws at me and take it all with a positive attitude.

Hope you all have a great week 2 as well!
