Debt UPdate

Adulting.  Why did I not relish in the glory of being a child as much as I should have?  Why didn’t I take more naps?  Draw on more walls with crayons?  Eat more dirt?adult-life

Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of amazing things about being an adult!  You can go to bed whenever you want and even spoil your appetite before dinner.  Hell, you can have ice cream for supper if that tickles your fancy.

However, all of the luxuries of being an adult are outweighed by the one cruel reality that comes with living on your own:

BILLS.

It is ALWAYS something!  Every time I feel like P and I are getting a handle on our debt and we are starting to make progress in the road to one day being DEBT FREE …

life throws in a speed bump, then a pothole, and finally just for shits and giggles one heck of a financial detour.

Let me preface this rant by just stating a few things.  I’m so incredibly lucky.  Everyone is healthy, I am 33 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby that I can’t wait to meet in mere weeks, and we have a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep in and bellies full of food.  Life for the most part is amazing…

BUT why does there always have to be a BUT?

When we found out I was pregnant we had been trying for years.  We had definitely planned for the extra finances that a baby requires.  We also bought (ok, we actually financed) a new vehicle that was safer and more family friendly for myself and baby.  We crunched the numbers and an extra car payment could squeeze into our budget.

BUT…

The reality of your computer’s motherboard dying isn’t nearly as stylish as when it happened to Carrie in Sex and the City

Then my husband’s computer crapped out (his motherboard died). It was 8 years old (which is like 150 in computer years) and he works in IT and has to have a top notch computer in order to do his job.  Well, a top notch computer is expensive.  P built it himself with all the bells and whistles.  Let’s just say it’s black with red components (he was going for a Darth Vader theme ) and the red LED lights he placed in his new computer now make our office look like a XXX store.  It was definitely an expense (not to mention office decor) that was unexpected for me.  We ended up having to finance it.  Boo. On the upside we were able to get 12 months no interest, but still its an extra monthly payment that we were not planning on this year.

Then a few weeks later P’s Jeep decided that it was sick and needed to go see the Jeep doc.  That damn Jeep racks up more medical bills then any other Jeep I know.  Then the following week, my old Jetta decided it also wasn’t feeling well and racked up another bill 4 times over what the Jeep bill was!!!!

WTF!

So in a nutshell, our debt is back to where it was last year.  All the progress we made is now back to square one.

BUT…

tumblr_inline_o5hxwpli9P1rydd6z_500

I’m discovering that all of the bills, the stress, the responsibility, and the unexpected twists and turns are just a part of being an adult.  Time to put my big girl pants on (and oh, how BIG my pants have gotten) shake it off and start all over again tomorrow with a big girl panty attitude!

Til next time,

Lean (or at least soon-to-be), mean, clean eating machine!

After returning home from Hawaii, the inevitable happened.  Sadness set in.  Of course I was devastated we had to leave paradise, but what I was most upset about was P and I’s pact.  We made a promise to one another that we would go crazy in Hawaii and drink and eat whatever we wanted (and for 9 days and 8 nights that is exactly what we did…  think “Jersey Shore” but with thirtysomethings who know words with more than two syllables) BUT when we came back we would start a new healthy eating plan.

The plan kicks off with six weeks of:

Very little carbs

yuck

No sweets

And no booze

tumblr_inline_mkcicg2wcY1qz4rgp

Today is day 6 of said plan.

Days 1-3 were rough.  Started on Saturday and spent most of my weekend on my back, in bed (and not in the good kind of way).  Withdrawals had definitely kicked in over the weekend.  Tired.  Oh so very tired while nursing a bad headache.

Days 4 and 5 were better.  Actually had the energy to get a quick workout in after work yesterday.  Yeah!

Day 6 is running much smoother.  Feeling MUCH more energetic!  I actually came home from work and actually accomplished…wait for it.…15 minutes of housework…whoo hoo!

Initially I was dreading this experiment, but now I’m looking forward to the next 5 weeks.

Couples that get healthy together also get hotter together. Right?!?!

Fast forward to 6 months of this clean eating thing and P and I could look like this:

1b23d03c6a98e874efea58f63d1b54f2

Or not…but at least we will be healthier.  Turning more into hot potatoes than couch potatoes.

Thanks for reading!  If any of you have any tips or advice for getting through this let me know.

I’m also documenting the 6 week jumpstart on Instagram if you want to tag along.

New Year, New Frugoals!

Happy 2015 everyone!!!!  I haven’t looked out the window yet, but I will be sorely disappointed if it doesn’t look anything like the 2015 featured in Back To The Future II.

tumblr_lg1amnnR581qzlluxo1_500

Damn!  Hate to spoil it for everyone but just stepped outside and there are no teens riding hoverboards in my neighborhood.

Bummer.

It is always so refreshing to start a new year.  It is like taking a bath after you have accumulated 365 days worth of stench. January 1 we all wake up fresh as a daisy and ready to bring IT the next 365 days.  I have lots of goals (both of the personal, professional and of course, frugoal variety).

I don’t want to lose a specific amount of weight.  I WILL get healthier.

I don’t want life to happen to me in 2015.  I WILL make life happen.

I don’t want to hit a certain number of blog hits or reach “X” amount of followers.  I WILL continue writing and knowing that this blog fills my soul with nothing but pure happiness.

I don’t want to focus on the fact I won’t be out of debt in 2015.  I WILL keep climbing out of debt a dollar at a time.

I don’t want to dwell on negative things from the past or negative thoughts about the future.  I WILL experience life day by day and know that happiness is as simple as appreciation for the moment that you are in.

With all that sappiness laid out on the table what are your goals for this year?

Thanks for spending part of your new year with me!

Exercise: Better than Prozac

Today started off rough.  Was having a “poor me” day and called my mom to only break down feeling sorry for myself.  Then I went to the gym and got a TWO hour workout in.  It was the BEST way I could have ended the day!

Me before the gym:

Giving Up The Junk Before Thanksgiving

Today is day 3 of my newest health challenge.  No more booze or sweets until Thanksgiving.  I also joined a group online where the goal is to run 100 miles before Thanksgiving.

So to sum up:

No more of this

And a lot of this

Should be fun…right?

Anyone else want to join me?  Anyone?

Turning Over A New Leaf

My 93 days of blogging challenge is dead and gone now.  I was a few blogs short but for the most part I posted a blog each day of the 93 days of summer.  Decided to ring in autumn by taking a week off of blogging but now I’m back baby.  The leaves are changing and so is my attitude about, well, everything.

182114378651621419SUAX0HOvcTime to get healthy in mind and body.

Time to start feeling appreciative for everything that I have.

Time to let go of the past and keep moving forward.

Time to silence the negative voice in my head and crank the volume on the positive thoughts instead.

Time to turn over a new leaf.

Much love to all of you that read this blog on a regular basis!  Got a LOT of projects planned for this fall and can’t wait to share them with you.

A little namaste for a Monday

Just got home from yoga class.  A time for relaxation and self-reflection.

Oh how I wished I looked like this in yoga class

Frugoal Fumbles

Sometimes one not look far (does that make sense, I have had two glasses of wine tonight)…let me start over.  Sometimes, one need not look far (yes I needed the need) for inspiration for one’s blog.

This blog was brought to you by two of my friends.

The first friend, let’s call her “Trish” said one of the most shocking things I have ever heard uttered by another human being in my 33 years of life.  During lunch in the breakroom she shared the fact that she had spent $15.00 on FIVE apples!!!!!!!!!!!!!  54167091Say what?  If my basic math skills are still correct after two glasses of wine that means that she spent  $3.00 on an apple.  In my humble opinion, no apple is worth that money, just ask Eve of the infamous Adam and Eve.  Look at all of the trouble that a woman went through for a FREE apple!  “Trish”, unless that apple has some nice jewelry  hanging off the stem, there is no way that any apple is THAT good to justify spending that kind of money.

Don’t worry “Trish”, you weren’t the only frugoal fumble of the day.  You share the award with my second friend who we shall call “Alexis”.  Now tonight I took “Alexis” out for a birthday dinner with another one of our friends, let’s call her “Monica”.  The three of us had a lovely meal accompanied by nice conversation but things turned sour real quick when the waitress came over and offered “Alexis” a free dessert called the moon unit (a brownie topped with vanilla ice cream).  disgusted010“Alexis” quickly refused the FREE dessert with a look of disgust and didn’t even ask “Monica” or “me”” (I guess I don’t need to do the quotes around my name) if we would want it.  If she would have asked us I would have said “Hell yes, what woman doesn’t want a big creamy unit in her mouth?”  But she didn’t ask at all.  It was her birthday and she was making it all about her.  How dare you “Alexis”, how dare you.

Both “Trish” and “Alexis” are avid readers of this blog, so I’m sorry ladies.  Somewhere along the way, I must have let you both down.  Keep reading and I will try to do better in the future.

Chasing The Zzzzzzs

Throughout my life I have suffered with bouts of insomnia.  It seems to come on the most when the seasons change.  Fall is fast approaching and my hourly sleep count is clocking in at around 4-5 hours a night…not healthy.  Looking for tips to help me sleep.  Help!!!  I did find this little visual online so I may try a few of these.

10-tips-for-better-sleep_51f6d5c81a107_w587

Looks like I need to work on numbers 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9…or just chug a bottle of wine before bed every night.

May you all get a better night’s sleep than I will.

5 things I LOVE that are FREE!

No matter where you are at financially, there are free things aplenty in your life that bring you joy.

Here is my list of not 1, not 2…but 5 things I currently love that are FREE!

  1. Yoga cat 003Yoga.  Who knew that concentrating on something as simple as breathing could make you feel so good.
  2. Snuggles from my kitty.  He makes me feel like being a crazy cat lady isn’t that crazy after all.
  3. Candy Crush.  I am on level 167 without spending a penny.  I am always tempted to pay $0.99 and click the “play on” button but this girl has willpower (even if it means spending another couple of weeks on beating level 167).Funniest_Memes_that-moment-when-you-beat-the-candy-crush_18484
  4. Banter.  I prefer the witty, clever and racy variety, but ultimately any banter will do.
  5. Getting feedback on this blog.  Nothing makes me happier than knowing someone took time out of their day to read my lil ol’ blog.  I don’t just like it.  I LOVE IT!

So that is my list, what is yours?  Shoot me a comment below, and don’t forget to “like” my page (they have no “love” button option yet, sorry) on facebook.
